‘Questions unanswered’: Family and friends protest outside Lauderdale County Courthouse two months after deadly shooting
FLORENCE, Ala. (WAFF) - A heartbroken family and their friends stood outside the Lauderdale County Courthouse Thursday in protest, looking for answers.
It’s been two months since 13-year-old Ryland Calvert was hit and killed in Florence and his family members say they still don’t have answers.
Investigators believe Calvert was killed trying to rob someone.
Family members and friends have been protesting outside the Lauderdale County Courthouse all day on Thursday. They said they will be at the courthouse and the Florence Police Department every day until they receive answers to all the questions that they have.
They said the signs they were holding would do the talking to the public.
Calvert said he needs to know more about what happened when his son was shot and killed.
Right now, the only person facing any charges is another teen who was with Calvert during this incident. The man who actually shot him has not been arrested or charged. Calvert’s father said he wants to know why that is, and why they would trust a witness statement from that man.
They want to know what other evidence is out there. The family said they just want the truth, no matter what it happens to be or leads to.
Jon Calvert said if police could show proof to him, he would pack up the protest and go home. Calvert said he has done some investigation into the matter himself, as well.
The Florence Police Department said there are no updates in the case that they can share, as it is an active investigation.
