Athens Little League team heads to Baton Rouge for Rec All-Stars World Series
ATHENS, Ala. (WAFF) - An Athens Little League team is set to represent North Alabama at the Rec All-Stars World Series in Baton Rouge later this month.
Ahead of the trip, the team received words of encouragement from Athens city leaders and firefighters. The players also presented Mayor Ronnie Marks with a team jersey.
Coach Joseph Hicks said the experience carries lessons beyond the game.
“It’s about teamwork,” Hicks said. “There’s so many things that are parallel you can learn on and off the baseball field. Teaching these kids how to be great citizens, you know, how they can change the world with playing baseball.”
The Rec All-Stars World Series begins July 9 and runs through July 12.
