FLORENCE, Ala. (WAFF) - A suspect is in custody after a deadly shooting in Florence on Wednesday afternoon, officials say.

The shooting happened at the Southern Oaks Village Apartments.

Florence Police Chief Mike Holt told WAFF on Thursday, they have a suspect in custody. The suspect is a juvenile and will be tried as an adult. The suspect faces charges of felony murder and robbery.

The person shot and killed was also a juvenile, police officials told WAFF. Officials with Colbert County Schools identified the victim as an eighth-grade student at Colbert Heights High School, Ryland Calvert.

Holt said during the investigation, the victim and suspect were allegedly working together to rob someone else when the shooting began.

The bond for the juvenile suspect is set at $100,000.

Chief Holt is asking the public for help getting all the facts in this case.

“Somebody might have gotten gone before the police got there so of course if anyone has information or if they witnessed anything,” Holt said. “If they heard anything or if they have video footage of anything that they think might be helpful we would absolutely like to review that. Our detectives would be very interested in that.”

Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact Florence Detective Price at 256-760-6500.

This remains an ongoing investigation.
