Civil lawsuit moving forward against ex-Tuscumbia cop jailed for manslaughter

TUSCUMBIA, Ala. (WAFF) - A civil lawsuit is moving forward against a former Tuscumbia police officer in prison for manslaughter.
Jay Steward is serving 20 years for the death of Terry Hinton.
Hinton’s family is suing for wrongful death.
On Tuesday, the court cleared the way for Steward’s deposition. Discovery is also moving forward for attorneys on both sides.
Steward was driving under the influence in a marked police car when he hit and killed Hinton in 2022.
