Morgan County NAACP President Rodney Gordon turns himself on warrant related to Decatur protest
MORGAN CO., Ala. (WAFF) -Morgan County NAACP President Rodney Gordon turned himself into Morgan County Jail on a misdemeanor warrant related to recent protests on Tuesday.
Gordon identified himself as one of the individuals Decatur Police obtained warrants following the Hudson Memorial Bridge protest on October 19.
During that demonstration, a group of individuals blocked the southbound lanes of traffic on the bridge to protest the officer-involved shooting of Steve Perkins.
Gordon is facing a misdemeanor disorderly conduct charge.
As he was walking into jail to turn himself in, Gordon discussed his frustration with WAFF.
“It took four days to pick [the protestors] up, it’s been 24 days and you [haven’t] arrested the man that killed [Steve Perkins],” Gordon said. “It’s been 24 days and there’s a hitman at home getting paid for it, you understand me.”
A few other protestors have turned themselves into Morgan County Jail following Gordon.
The Decatur Police Department says they are still attempting to contact the other individuals so that they can turn themselves in if they choose to do so.
