DEKALB CO., Ala. (WAFF) - A search for a murderer has stretched into its third week in DeKalb County.

Investigators are trying to find the person who shot and killed Mentone native Adam Battles in early April.

Adam’s mother, Dedra Battles, spoke with WAFF 48 on Thursday, and she said she cannot fathom how someone could want to hurt her son.

Investigators say Battles was shot and killed in his vehicle while pulling into his driveway on County Road 641 in Mentone.

His family believes he was followed by another driver who shot him in an act of road rage.

Sheriff Nick Welden called this shooting a “senseless act of violence” in the days after the shooting.

Since then, investigators have been following multiple leads to find the person responsible, including photos of this vehicle seen near the scene.

Dedra Battles, Adam’s mother, said this has been the most difficult period her family has ever had to endure.

She shared a message for the person responsible

“Sometimes I want I scream, sometimes I want to cry, and it’s just the worse thing I’ve ever been through. They should turn themselves in, and how could they be such a monster?” Battles said.

Dedra told WAFF 48 that Adam leaves behind two sons who, unfortunately, have to reach their milestones without him in their lives.

“Two little boys don’t have their daddy. One of them has got a prom this weekend without his daddy. Then, in two weeks, he will graduate without his daddy,” said Battles.

The family has increased the reward for information on the shooting to $2,500 thanks to donations from the community.

Sheriff Nick Welden tells me the investigation remains ongoing and updates are expected in the coming days.
