DECATUR, Ala. (WAFF) - During a press conference regarding an officer-involved shooting, Decatur Police Chief Torry Mack said the officer’s actions were lawful and justified.

In November 2025, a man was injured in an officer-involved shooting after an officer attempted to pull him over for a traffic stop.

In body camera footage shown during the press conference, it appears to show the man turning out of the parking lot with the officer following before turning on their emergency lights.

The video then shows the man turning left, then right, before he eventually stops his car.

The man then exits his vehicle and turns towards officers with what appears to be a weapon.

During the early investigation, Mack said the man brandished “what appeared to be a firearm.”

During the press conference, Mack identified the weapon as a BB gun that was modeled to look like a Glock with a laser light.

Mack says the officer then used his service weapon to shoot at the man. The man was shot in his hand.

The officer was not injured in the incident and has been taken off administrative leave.

Mack says the man, who will not be identified, is currently in the Morgan County Jail on escape and theft charges.
