Woman charged with assaulting federal officer after crashing into old Redstone Arsenal gate

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - A woman faces federal charges after crashing into an old gate at Redstone Arsenal and assaulting an officer.

Julia Brock Hartsell is currently in the Morgan County Jail, charged with Assault of a Federal Officer.

Investigators say on Wednesday night, Hartsell crashed right into the barriers at Gate 2 of Redstone Arsenal, which is permanently closed.

According to a newly released criminal complaint, officers arrived Wednesday night to see the car that rammed into Gate 2’s barriers, but there was no driver inside.

They say Hartsell walked up behind them and shattered the rear window of an officer’s vehicle.

The officer saw Hartsell had a weapon, and she ordered her to drop it before firing a gunshot at her. The officer missed, and Hartsell reached for the gun.

Court records say they both struggled over the gun before tumbling down an embankment near the road.

From there, other officers and firefighters on the scene helped arrest Hartsell.

No injuries were mentioned for either Hartsell or the officer.

Redstone Arsenal leaders say they cannot comment about the case at this time.
