HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - The 19th Annual Ray of Hope Festival is returning to Huntsville on Sunday!

The festival celebrates unity, culture, and compassion. It’s more than a festival, it’s a movement that brings people together through music, food, and art, all while supporting survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking.

InterMuse Productions founder and CEO Giorgio Caioli and AshaKiran Chair Katiya McKinney joined 48 Now to share how this celebration uplifts the community and creates real impact.

The Ray of Hope Festival event showcases the richness of Huntsville’s multicultural spirit through cultural dance, international performances, global cuisine from local food trucks, and opportunities for community connection and networking. There are around 40 groups that will perform.

“We looked at it as a platform for different groups. International dance groups, international musical groups to be given a platform to showcase their talent and showcase their culture but also, bring to light some of the more difficult topics in those communities as well,” McKinney said.

Proceeds and awareness generated from the festival directly support AshaKiran’s mission to provide crisis services, education, and advocacy for individuals affected by domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking.

AshaKiran has safe houses in north, central, and south Alabama and they have around 60 volunteer translators to help people of all cultures and backgrounds. They also provide services and resources to local schools, companies, and police departments on how to deal with certain situations like assault where there are non-English speakers.

Caioli said he wanted to collaborate to help with this year’s Ray of Hope Festival after a year of being a foreperson on a federal grand jury in Seattle for cases dealing with sexual assault and human trafficking. He wanted to use his production resources to help with AshaKiran’s mission to bring awareness to these important topics.

Caioli’s mission also overlaps with AshaKiran’s mission by bringing people together from different cultures. He said he wants attendees to become more open minded to connecting with people from all walks of life.

“Opening yourself to other cultures is the best thing you can do,” Caioli said.

In addition to there being various performances, there will also be resource tables so people can learn more about AshaKiran and the services they provide, and they can learn more about the groups performing.

“I want to make people aware of AshaKiran’s availability to help and mitigate and resolve all the issues of domestic violence, and human trafficking,” Caioli said.

“I wanted to make sure we were delivering with the show. Not just a showcase of beautiful dancers and music but also the message of AshaKiran.”

The goal of the festival is to connect people and open their minds to different cultures while also sharing AshaKiran’s important mission and services.

“Between the dance and the music, I think as an audience member you’ll just realize how we’re so much the same, no matter how different the music is or the dance, or the dress, these are issues that we all deal with. Music and dance bring people together,” McKinney said.
