Scottsboro community welcomes home police officer injured in July shooting
SCOTTSBORO, Ala. (WAFF) - The Scottsboro community gathered downtown to welcome home a police officer who was injured in a shooting in July.
Lieutenant Derek Porch was injured when suspect, Daniel McCarn, shot him and fled from police for nearly 20 hours on July 26.
Officials said Lt. Porch, who has been with the department for 29 years, was shot in his left hand.
Lt. Porch spent time recovering at Huntsville Hospital and was moved to a facility out of state that specializes in hand injuries.
He is now coming home, and officials encouraged the public to come out, welcome him back, and show him appreciation for his service.
