HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - Huntsville Hospital released a statement on Sunday after receiving an “F” grade on Leapfrog Hospital Safety’s recent report.

The Leapfrog Group states that they are “an independent nonprofit organization committed to driving quality, safety, and transparency in the U.S. health system.”

The Leapfrog Group says that Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades are assigned to nearly 3,000 general acute-care hospitals across the nation twice annually. The Safety Grade uses up to 22 national patient safety measures from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Leapfrog Hospital Survey, and information from other supplemental data sources, to produce a single letter grade representing a hospital’s overall performance in keeping patients safe from preventable harm and medical errors.

The group recently released their safety report and gave Huntsville Hospital an “F” grade.

Leapfrog Hospital Safety graded Huntsville Hospital in multiple categories. They said the “outcomes measures include errors, accidents, and injuries that this hospital has publicly reported.”

The grade was also based on the following categories: infections, problems with surgery, safety problems, practices to prevent error, and doctors, nurses, and hospital staff.

Huntsville Hospital released a statement saying that the Leapfrog survey is not an accurate measure of patient safety at their hospital.
