The tradition lives on: UNA to host Light the Fountain next week
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (TENNESSEE VALLEY LIVING) - On March 14, University of North Alabama students, faculty and staff, and the surrounding community with gather for one of the most beloved traditions on campus, Light the Fountain.

As a brand new University President in 2015, Dr. Kenneth Kitts the iconic fountain was drained of water and closed for the winter season. One evening, facilities turned the lights of the fountain back on, and Dr. Kitts awoke and knew that this was a missed opportunity. He spoke with the Division of Student Affairs and in 2016, the inaugural Light the Fountain took place.
... I tell the students, ‘This is your celebration.' There's only one Light the Fountain in the U.S.
To join in on the celebrations for Light the Fountain, visit here. The night will kick off at 6:30 p.m. with music and food and the lighting of the fountain will start at 7:30 p.m.

Within recent years, UNA has seen some of the strongest growth of any university in the state of Alabama. In just the last eight years, Dr. Kitts has seen the campus grow from 7,000 students to close to 10,000. With state-of-the-art technology helping to educate future healthcare providers, engineers, journalists, computer scientists, and so much more, it is ensuring job security for alumna.

In 2030, UNA will celebrate its bicentennial. Founded on January 11, 1830, UNA is the oldest 4-year institution in the state of Alabama. Dr. Kitts says the University will start planning now because this monumental milestone will be a multi-year celebration that leads up to January 2030.
