Fallen officers honored in Huntsville

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - Thursday night, family and friends gathered in downtown Huntsville at the Fallen Law Enforcement Memorial.
Though dozens of civilians attended the somber event, most of the crowd was officers and their families.
Loved ones say they would like the turnout to be bigger in the future.
"I would like to see... a larger population showing up," said Kelly Freeman, whose son died in the line of duty.
Nancy Gayle Sanders, who lost her brother echoed those sentiments.
"I think more people should participate in it, and the community should come out more than what they do," she said.
Freeman says he hopes to see a shift soon of more people supporting police officers and the job that they do.
"If the country doesn't get behind the police force and let them know that they are with them and have their back, then I don't see how they can possibly continue to get people coming in to do the job that police are doing," Freeman said.
