Hunt continues for driver who hit, killed Waterloo woman

WATERLOO, AL (WAFF) - The family of a woman killed in a hit and run crash is not giving up as police hunt for the driver.
Wilma Darlene Carles, 71, was crossing the road just south of the Tennessee state line when she was struck by an on-coming vehicle.
Authorities say the driver of the vehicle has still not been found after eight months.
A memorial cross and faded markings serve as a constant reminder of what happened nearly 8 months ago.
"There's reminders every day when you walk out to the mailbox and stuff, you can't not think about it," said family member Randy Yaciw.
Authorities said Darlene Carles was walking to D & R Hardware to have some coffee when she was hit by an on-coming vehicle.
The driver never stopped, leaving the 71-year-old woman in the road, less than 100 yards from where she lived.
"I guess it'd be better if we knew who did it or why they didn't stop, that's the part I'll never understand." said Yaciw.
Yaciw says law enforcement try to update his family on the case at least once a month.
"It makes you feel better that they haven't given up and that they're determined they're going to find out who it is, and sooner or later they will." he said.
Yaciw says the last few months have been tough, but they keep hoping and praying for answers.
If you have any information on the fatal hit and run, or know who the driver may be, you're asked to call the Lauderdale County Sheriff's office or State Trooper's office.
