LAUDERDALE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

On Tuesday, an accused Lauderdale County killer was found guilty on escape charges in an unrelated incident.

Shannon Johnson faced an escape charge dating back to 2011. Opening statements in the jury trial started Tuesday morning.

Back in March of 2011, Shannon Johnson pleaded guilty to resisting arrest in exchange for six months work release.

The district attorney said Johnson not only showed up late to turn himself in to the work release program, but that he escaped before the first week of his sentence ended.

After being found guilty of escape, Shannon Johnson could receive an additional 10 years in prison.

Johnson has since been indicted on perjury charges in connection with the murder of Keith Barnett and he will face a trial on both of those charges.
