HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - 14-year-old Andrew Brasfield died Thursday after being hit by a vehicle Wednesday night.

Officers were called to the scene of Noble Drive and Whitesburg Drive.  They say Brasfield and some of his friends were trying to cross the street.

Police say the group was headed to the Shell Gas Station at Whitesburg and Airport Road for cokes and candy bars.

Brasfield and his buddies were crossing Whitesburg Drive in an area not designated with a crosswalk.

Brasfield was hit by an on coming Jeep.

His friends made it across safely.

Brasfield was rushed to Huntsville Hospital where he died, surrounded by family and friends.

Brasfield was a freshman at Huntsville High School.

While in middle school he was in the choir and played second base on the school's baseball team.

Trey Poe is a friend.

He was devastated when he received a text late Thursday night about Brasfield's accident.

He went to the hospital to say goodbye.

Poe says he'll always remember Brasfield for his winning personality.

"He laughed all the time he was a great fighter. I fought him a lot. He liked to joke around. He makes everybody happy. Just a fun guy," said friend Trey Poe.  "It's really hard to understand he's not going to be with me anymore."

We've also learned Andrew was an organ donor.

He's the son of a well known family in Huntsville-Billy and Donna Brasfield.

Billy worked in local radio.

Police say no charges have been filed against the driver at this time.

A prayer vigil for Andrew will be held Thursday night at Monte Sano United Methodist church at 9 p.m.
