Ronald Acuña Jr. exits loss vs. White Sox with left hamstring tightness
ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Atlanta Braves outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. left Tuesday’s 6-5 loss against the Chicago White Sox in the fourth inning with left hamstring tightness, according to the team.
Acuña pulled up after being thrown out at first on a groundout and limped to the dugout with a trainer. Eli White replaced Acuña in right field and moved into the leadoff spot.
Acuña has an OPS of .794 with seven home runs and 22 RBIs in 195 at-bats this season. He previously missed 13 games earlier this season with a hamstring strain, which he suffered on a similar-looking play.
He went 0-for-2 with a strikeout and a hit by pitch before exiting the game.
Despite Acuña’s injury, the Braves jumped out to an early lead thanks to Matt Olson, who launched his 18th and 19th home runs of the season to put Atlanta ahead 4-0.
Grant Holmes started for Atlanta and pitched 3.2 innings, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out two.
The White Sox tied the game in the seventh inning on a Jacob Gonzalez RBI single off Braves reliever Carlos Carrasco. Chicago then completed the comeback in the tenth when rookie Braden Montgomery, making his Major League debut, hit a walk-off home run off Raisel Iglesias to give the White Sox a 6-5 victory.
The Braves will look to bounce back Wednesday with Chris Sale scheduled to start on the mound.
