New charges filed against man accused of shooting Scottsboro cop
SCOTTSBORO, Ala. (WAFF) - New charges have now been filed against the man accused of shooting Scottsboro Police Lt. Derek Porch.
A Jackson County grand jury returned a four-count indictment against Daniel McCarn.
He was arrested in July on charges of attempted murder and leaving the scene of an accident.
His criminal indictment also includes discharging a gun into an occupied building and attempting to elude police.
McCarn previously pleaded not guilty.
Now his attorney has filed to suppress statements he made after his arrest.
McCarn’s attorney’s motion to suppress written and oral statements alleges a violation of his constitutional rights.
McCarn will be in court on October 27 for a hearing on supressing the evidence.
WAFF 48 reached out to Scottsboro police. They said Porch is still currently taking his recovery a day at a time and remains on leave from the department.
There is currently no definite timeline for his recovery.
