Man arrested in Limestone Co. after confessing to the sexual assault of a child
LIMESTONE CO., Ala. (WAFF) - A man was arrested in Limestone County after confessing to sexually assaulting a child on Sunday.
Limestone County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a call regarding a man caught in the act of abusing a child.
When a deputy arrived, he discovered that the victim’s family had detained the suspect after he was caught and held him until law enforcement could arrive.
The suspect was identified as 38-year-old Luis Lopez-Martinez. He had originally given the name Mario Francisco Martin.
Lopez-Martinez was taken into custody and the victim was immediately transported to the hospital for medical evaluation and care.
During an interview, Lopez-Martinez confessed to Sexual Abuse of a Child Less than 12 Years Old and stated “It is what it is.”
He was arrested and his bond was set at $250,000. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has placed an immigration detainer on him.

Their efforts reinforce our commitment to protecting the most vulnerable members of our community and ensuring that justice is served.”
The investigation is ongoing and officials say additional charges may be filed as new evidence emerges.
