GLENCOE, AL (WAFF) -
An Army soldier who has connection to the Fort Payne area was critically injured in Afghanistan.
Josh Wetzel of Glencoe, Alabama remains unconscious after both legs were amputated, one at the knee and the other below the knee. Wetzel also suffered a fractured elbow and shrapnel injures.
Wetzel is an Army Specialist with the A Company 1-23 Infantry division.
The details of the explosion are unknown, but reports said at least four others were injured.
"He's a fighter and he will come through this," said his high school baseball coach Charlie Robertson.
