DECATUR, AL (WAFF) - Decatur Police confirmed Mitchell Lindsey had drugs in his system when he crashed and killed a Decatur woman.
Lindsey is charged with the murder of Bessie Stovall.
Investigators said Lindsey was fleeing from the police in a stolen vehicle when he crashed into Stovall's vehicle, killing her instantly.
A preliminary investigation indicated Lindsey was driving fast and erratically.
He reportedly ran a stop sign at the intersection of Cedar Street and Spring Avenue when his vehicle hit Stovall's car. Police said her car flipped over and hit a utility pole.
Stovall died at the scene.
Lindsey was captured after he tried to escape on foot.
