A full scale investigation is underway within and outside of defense contractor SAIC.

That's because SAIC execs say that the company did not secure the personal and sensitive information of some 500,000 of its military customers and their families and that means these people could be targets for identity theft.

SAIC has called on the Department of Defense to assist them in working with Tri Care.

They oversee the health benefits program for the military, retirees and their families.

SAIC has put a number of its employees on administrative leave until the company determines who and how the names, social security numbers and medical conditions of some of these people got out.

A company spokesperson told me this afternoon that those affected domestically and internationally will receive a letter in the mail in the next few days explaining what steps they need to take from here.
