HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - We need more teachers in Alabama. That's what the department of education says.

Now, the state superintendent is pushing to adjust the process of becoming a teacher.

Dr. Eric Mackey wants to take another look at the tests some teachers are required to take for certification.

This could especially help draw in career tech professionals like welders.

Right now tech professionals are required to take the same reading and math tests as other teachers.
