Hearing aids lead to unique friendship at Madison County elementary school
MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - During the first week of school, kids meet a ton of new faces.
Two students at Madison Cross Roads Elementary school say they resemble each other.
A fourth-grader and a kindergartner at Madison Cross Roads have a friendship that is unique. They met the first week of school this year.
Austin Hines is a kindergarten student, and Legend Washington is in fourth grade. Legend came up to say hello to Austin, who was walking in the hallway. Austin them smiled after realizing that Legend had hearing aids, just like him.
Now they are best friends.
Austin told his assistant principal, who saw the first interaction, that it felt good to see someone that looks like him.
They can help each other navigate how to explain to other students why they have hearing aids and how they work, a simple connection that means everything.
Legend is also teaching Austin along the way and making sure he keeps on smiling.
They now have a newfound friendship to share for many years to come.
