Huntsville mother uses Spartan Race to heal after son's death

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - Spartan, the world's largest obstacle race and endurance brand, is heading to Milky Way Farms in Pulaski, TN in September for the Nashville Super and Sprint Weekend.

Among the thousands of participants expected to take on the 8-10-mile "Super" and 3-5-mile "Sprint" races is Huntsville resident Julia Khodabandeh.

Julia lost her son Evan just over a year ago after a battle with addiction, and she needed a way to heal and let out her pain. That's when she came across a local training program for the upcoming Nashville Super and Sprint race weekend.

Since joining the group, Julia says she's been able to let out some negative energy and has made some great friends along the way. She is just about 7 weeks away from tackling the Spartan Sprint race in honor of her son Evan.
