Police arrest man suspected of rape in Florence

FLORENCE, AL (WAFF) - Police have arrested a man accused of rape and sexual abuse following an indictment.

The Florence Police Department says that Steven Marcus Burge was arrested on Wednesday after an indictment was issued by a Lauderdale County Grand Jury. They say Burge is accused of forcefully raping and sexually abusing a 20-year-old female.

The victim's name is not being released at this time.

The rape reportedly occurred in May 2017 in Florence.

Burge has been charged with rape in the first degree and sexual abuse in the first degree. He is being held in the Lauderdale County Detention Center. His bond is set at $100,000. He was already being held on a $12,000 bond for previous unrelated charges, bringing his total bond to $112,000.
