Gunman in custody after barricading himself inside SW Huntsville home

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - Police have taken a man that was barricaded inside a home in southwest Huntsville into custody.

That man has now been identified as 28-year-old Kenneth Lamarte Adams.

Authorities received a call around 3 p.m. of an individual that forced themselves into a home in the area. They say they went to the door of the home after arriving, which is when the victim, who was still inside the home, was reportedly directed by the gunman to "tell them everything's o.k.".

Officers got her to safety after she went to the door and confirmed the man was there with a gun. Police then blocked off the area of Newson Road and Drake Avenue.

Lieutenant Johnson with Huntsville police says that this was not a domestic situation.

Multiple units responded to the scene, including K9, SWAT, negotiators, and major crime investigators.

Police also say that a second female that came to the door when officers arrived is being treated for minor assault wounds. They say the suspect assaulted her with a pistol.

Adams is being charged with robbery in the first degree, two counts of conspiracy to commit a controlled substance crime, and possession of a pistol by a violent felon.
