HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - Sugarland guitarist, Thad Beaty, volunteered at Downtown Rescue Mission on Friday ahead of the band's scheduled concert at the Von Braun Center.
Beaty toured the mission and spent time volunteering at both the main campus and Owen's House.
The project is to encourage people to come together and engage with each other to positively impact their communities.
"We are looking forward to Thad volunteering and seeing our facility, this will be an exciting day and fun day for our guests," said Keith Overholt, CEO and president of the mission.
Downtown Rescue Mission officials said they are excited to use time with Beaty to show him the facilities and give some insight on services provided and needs in the Huntsville community.
"I just truly think there's something amazing that happens when you pay attention to the community and what's happening outside of you," Beaty said.
The stops are part of Beaty's "Move for Music" campaign.
"They've got life figured out, and in a selfish way I get to come in and learn from these people. And then to get on stage and celebrate that day with the people of the community, with my friends on stage, I feel extremely blessed," Beaty said about the Downtown Rescue Mission.
