MADISON, AL (WAFF) - Police in Madison have identified two vehicle burglars.
Chief of Police Dave Jernigan says that two officers were patrolling the parking lots of Planet Fitness and Second and Charles on Highway 72 when they spotted a vehicle they had been looking for from a previous break-in.
Two juveniles were questioned and then admitted to multiple burglaries in that same shopping center.
A person is also in custody in Lee County in relation to having evidence from Greenway vehicle break-ins.
Police note that they don't typically see these types of forced entries into vehicles and ask that people keep their doors locked to deter burglars.
Jernigan urges the community to take steps to reduce crime in the area. He says to leave nothing of value in vehicles and to lock all doors. He also says to leave lights on in your home to make it seem occupied and if you go out-of-town, to have a neighbor clear your newspapers and collect your mail.
If you do go out-of-town, you can call the Madison Police for a vacation check at 256-722-7190.
