(WAFF) - As the flowers begin to blossom, women begin to diet tirelessly, and family emotions soar with both excitement and anxiety- Wedding Season is upon us.
Local real estate developer, Dr. John Wisda opened the french-doors to Huntsville's newest wedding venue, Riverside Event Center just weeks ago. The news-worthy development has swirled around with anticipation, after the recent annexation of the Lacey's Spring property into the City of Huntsville.
Located just across from Ditto Landing on Old River Road, Wisda's breathtaking two acre venue and 17,200 square foot development is set to become a haven for Huntsville weddings and events. The two-story event center which is anchored by 12-foot beams features both indoor and outdoor accommodations overlooking the Tennessee River. It is like something out of a Nicholas Sparks novel.
Wisda decided to embark on this venture after attending countless weddings over the years and listening to the common complaints and concerns of brides and their families.
"There were a couple big things we wanted to achieve when building this venue. The first being flexibility. All to often I would attend what was supposed to be an outdoor wedding, and the bride and her family would be stressing about the weather forecast. This development offers a backup plan in the case of unfavorable weather," said Wisda.
Alongside the flexibility of both indoor and outdoor accomodations is the ability to use any wedding caterer or planner you desire. Many of Huntsville's popular wedding venues restrict renters from using outside caterers or event planners. The second is the scenic view. No other wedding venue in the City of Huntsville has a Riverfront view. We'll be the first. Lastly, is the availability. There is no other wedding venue of this stature that you can rent tomorrow."
What's inside the buzz-worthy venue?
Downstairs, the venue encompasses over 8,600 square feet where guests can host the wedding and/or reception, covering guests from the natural elements. The decorative concrete rustic wooden beams, and river view make it the perfect setting for any southern wedding. Upstairs, visitors will walk into 8,600 square feet of carefully planned reception space complete with an industrial kitchen, a brides room, a grooms room, and seating space for up to 300 people.
"The problem with a lot of wedding venues is the kitchen. Many builders see it as an afterthought and don't include the requisite equipment or space," said Wisda.
The industrial kitchen is outfitted with top-of-the-line appliances including two ovens, two warmers, two refrigerators, a restaurant style sink, oversized freezer. The kitchen also has plenty of prep space.
Then, there's the most important room-the bridal quarters. The bridal suite features three full vanities (complete with outlets galore), a sitting area, two spacious closets with full length mirrors, and a private bathroom.
Strategically placed, on the opposite end of the corridor is the groom's room. The quarters were designed to separate the bridal parties before the ceremony and cater to their needs. The grooms-room has a spacious closet, sitting area, and private bathroom.
Last but certainly not least, is the common area, a grande space that provides seating for up to 300 guests and plenty of dancing. The common area features massive bay windows, a porch overlooking the river, and a romantic setting.
Wisda has partnered with Burritt on the Mountain veteran and season event planner, Kelsey Hyche to manage the venue and serve as the on site event-coordinator. While brides are always free to work with their wedding planner of choice, Wisda's brought Hyche on to equip brides with a seasoned event planner.
"I am so excited to be bringing a new, unique venue to the Huntsville area that will better serve our brides and local companies and continue doing what I love in the city that I love so dearly," said Hyche.
