FLORENCE, AL (WAFF) - Last week, the Florence-Lauderdale Animal Shelter said they were overwhelmed by the number of drop offs. So this week they've waived adoption fees to get their dogs and cats into good homes.

Officials at the animal shelter say this week over 100 animals have been adopted so far. They say this week has been such a relief for the shelter. The Florence animals shelter are thankful for the city and community coming together to help those animals.

Leah Fox, animal control director, said they still have a lot of animals that need to be adopted. She said they hope to continue to find homes for these animals.

The city and the shelter still have plans in place to clean up the old facility and are working to create a program that will expedite the adoption process.

They say this week has been so good they will be open Monday through Wednesday and Friday from 2-5 p.m. next week before the 10-day shutdown.
