Retired Decatur police officer passes away
DECATUR, AL (WAFF) - Current and retired Decatur police officers are mourning one of their own
Retired Lt. Frank DeButy passed away on Saturday from a stroke and bleeding of the brain.
DeButy was a well-known part of the department. He served in numerous units, including SWAT, vice/narcotics and training.
"The Decatur Police Department is deeply saddened by the loss of retired Lt. Frank DeButy. Respected by all who knew him, Lt. DeButy was known for his honesty, willingness to always go above and beyond in the line of duty, and eagerness to pass along what he knew to new recruits and officers. His sterling reputation preceded him wherever he went. We are forever thankful for his service and for the mentorship he provided for so many of our officers who serve today," said Decatur Police Chief Nate Allen.
"He'll be remembered as an innovator, as a dedicated police officer, and we all want to leave our mark on the world. He's a guy that left a mark," said retired Police Chief Ed Taylor.
