Couple sentenced in fatal Jackson Co. dog attack

JACKSON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - A couple has been sentenced in the case of a fatal Jackson County dog attack.

Brian Graden, 43, and Melody Graden, 45, were arrested after a dog attack resulted in the death of 24-year-old Emily Mae Colvin.


The couple pleaded guilty to charges on Tuesday.

Brian Graden pleaded guilty to criminally negligent homicide and sentenced to 12 months in the county jail. That sentence was split. He must serve 48 days in jails and two years of supervised probation.

Melody Graden pleaded guilty to four counts of failure to vaccinate her dog for rabies. She was sentenced to 90 days on each count, which would be a total of 360 days. The judge suspended that sentence, so she must serve two years of supervised probation.

Neither Brian nor Melody is allowed to have dogs while they are serving their probation.

The couple was ordered to pay restitution, in an amount that is unknown at this time.
