COLBERT COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - Multiple authorities responded to a standoff situation in Colbert County on Monday.

Authorities said it started when a man barricaded himself in his home on Cameron Circle off River Road and said he had a bomb.

After the man reportedly came to the door of the home with a gun and what looked like a bomb, the Colbert County sheriff called the Florence bomb squad. Residences around the home were evacuated so that officials could begin searching the area.

Investigators said the man asked to speak with the Colbert County sheriff directly, a conversation in which they discussed the consequences of what he was doing. The man then assured the sheriff that he didn't have anything in the house.

The identity of the man barricaded in the house has not been released.

The FBI responded to the scene.

No other information was released Monday.
