RAINSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - Keeping you protected in DeKalb County. That's what the Rainsville Police Department says they intend to do with an old armored truck that was donated to them by Brink's security services in Huntsville.
On Friday, WAFF 48 News got a sneak peak at the truck ans also looked at the work the department is doing to convert the truck into a new mobile command post. It will be the first of its kind in DeKalb County.
Chief Kevin Smith says once finished, the truck will be an asset for surrounding communities.
"We're going to use it for multiple things. It's gonna be you know, an emergency vehicle, obviously. It''ll be for active shooter or in the event of a tornado or something of that nature. That we can through debris, we can move debris out of the roadway. It'll also act as a mobile command post. It's gonna have different radio systems in it, where we can communicate UHF, VHF, even HAM radio," said Smith.
Smith says they hope to finish painting the truck and finish installing the interior gear shortly.
