COLBERT COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - State bridge inspections have been ongoing in the Shoals.

This past month, the King Bridge in Leighton has officially shut down due to its poor condition.

Right now, there are 12 bridges in the county with weight restrictions due to the lack of maintenance, which means certain sized loads and vehicles can't use them.

"The legislatures are going to have to look at the serious funding issues for county, city, and state roads and bridges," said John Bedford, Colbert County engineer.

Bedford said bridges in the county are deteriorating but state lawmakers are not providing any funding to help solve these ongoing problems.
