Decomposed body found near East Lawrence High School identified

LAWRENCE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - A death investigation is underway in Lawrence County.

Sheriff Gene Mitchell confirms a body was found near the East Lawrence High School baseball field in the tree line just off County Road 475. The call came in shortly before 8 p.m. Tuesday.

County Coroner Greg Randolph said some juveniles found the body in a ditch by the road. He said the body was badly decomposed.

Randolph identified the body as Matthew Caleb Farrer, 22, of Trinity. Mitchell said Farrer was reported missing by his father on March 22.

The cause of death has not been determined.

Anyone who had contact with Farrer on or about the time he went missing is asked to contact the Lawrence County Sheriff's Office at 256-974-9291.
