ARAB, AL (WAFF) - A suspect is in custody. Fire investigators in Arab believe he is somehow connected to an overnight fire at his own house.

Fire officials put out the fire and say it wasn't long they got credible evidence this wasn't just a house fire.

Arab fire crews responded to a house fire on Shoal Creek Road just before 3 a.m.

A neighbor called in the fire to say there were flames coming out of the attic, and it was fully involved with fire crews arrived.

With the help of some adjoining volunteer fire departments, the fire was contained in an hour.

Chief Ricky Phillips said they received credible evidence the fire was arson and a person was quickly detained.

Phillips said a search warrant was obtained and began going through the fire, looking for evidence Wednesday afternoon.

"So we can collect those samples and through forensics, we can determine if something was added or something that was there that shouldn't have been, and so we feel pretty certain with statements that we are going to find something," Phillips said.

Christopher Lynn Hardin, 41, is charged with Arson.

Investigators don't know why he set his own house on fire.
