ATHENS, AL (WAFF) - Limestone County deputies arrested an Athens man on animal cruelty charges late Tuesday.

Deputies say it started as a domestic altercation on Ham Road. Deputies say when the female involved told 26-year-old Julio Cesar Rodriguez to leave, he got angry, went outside and began hitting chickens in the head with a machete.

Deputies say they found 32 chickens killed or mutilated in the backyard.

Rodriguez was charged with felony aggravated cruelty to animals. He was booked into the Limestone County Jail on a $2,500 bond.
