LAUDERDALE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - A Lauderdale County jury has found a man guilty of trying to kill a county deputy.
On Friday, Timothy Murphy was found guilty of attempted murder in connection to the shooting of Lauderdale County sheriff's deputy Randall McCrary in February 2016.
McCrary and three other deputies were serving Murphy with commitment papers when the shooting started. Deputies say Murphy shot first, hitting McCrary in the chest, and they returned fire.
McCrary recovered from his injuries.
Murphy pleaded not guilty by reason of mental defect.
He chose not to testify.
