Cell phone video leads to rape charge in Lauderdale County

LAUDERDALE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - A Lauderdale County man facing an attempted murder charge is back behind bars, accused of rape.
Demetrice Varsaile Carroll, also known as "Meechie," was indicted in February in connection to a 2014 shooting at a business. That shooting led to the death of Antonio Foster, a Tuscumbia man, although Carroll's charge remains as attempted murder.

A Lauderdale County investigator said the rape victim had cell phone video of the incident, which he said is extremely rare.
The victim first reported that she was sexually assaulted and said her car and phone went missing when the ordeal took place. The investigator said the woman did not consent and that you could clearly see in the video that she lost consciousness and seemed lifeless.
In 2007, Carroll pleaded guilty to sexual misconduct with a minor which he did not have to register as a sex offender.
His bond is set at $50,000.
