HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - There's an event this week aimed at giving our emergency responders the best knowledge on how to deal with an active shooter situation.

The Joint Public Safety Response to Active Shooter event is Wednesday on Redstone Arsenal. It will go from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. with registration starting at 8:30 a.m. at the NASA Activities Building, 4316 Digney Rd.

There's no cost but lunch will not be provided.

Redstone is bringing in guest speaker Mike Clumpner, who is a 26-year veteran of public safety, including being a fire captain.

They expect more than 100 attendees from emergency services organizations and school systems, with a mix of federal, state, and local agencies.

They'll be looking at the quote "totality of the event from many different perspectives" how to deal with an active shooter situation and lessons learned from more than 75 large-scale active shooter exercises.
