2 arrested in Decatur traffic shootout

DECATUR, AL (WAFF) - Decatur police have arrested two men in connection to a shootout involving two vehicles.

Markevias Marquez Brown, 23, and Jarious ONeal Miller, 21, turned themselves in on Wednesday. They are charged with shooting into an occupied vehicle.

It started when officers received a call of shots fired in the 900 block of 7th Avenue SE on Tuesday afternoon. They then received a call of a shooting victim in the alleyway between 7th Avenue and 8th Avenue SE.

Responding officers found a woman with a cut on her leg. The wound did not require any medical treatment.

During the investigation, they determined the woman was in a car with her son when they were shot at on 5th Street SE. Their vehicle was not hit at that time.

Police determined the pair fled the area and were trying to get to their house, but as they rounded the corner onto 6th Street, the same offender turned around and drove towards them with the driver pointing a gun out the window at them.

Police say the other driver fired at the woman as the vehicles passed each other.

The woman's son returned fire.

Multiple shots were fired, according to police.

The woman's vehicle was struck multiple times. Police aren't sure if the other vehicle was struck by gunfire.

It was determined that the woman was injured by a piece of glass rather than a bullet. She and her son were checked by medics and determined to be OK.

Police said there was no other property damage located.

Police developed Brown as a suspect and obtained an arrest warrant.

Brown and Miller turned themselves in on Wednesday.

They were each booked on a $5,000 bond.
