HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - A Huntsville community is concerned that their holiday deliveries will go missing before they can get to them.

Lt. Stacy Bates with the Huntsville Police Department said it's about being proactive. He said if you know you won't be home, ask a neighbor to look out for it or have the post office hold your package. Try getting it delivered to your workplace instead of your unattended front porch.

Bates said the most helpful tool for law enforcement is when a civilian has security cameras installed.

"We did have a case about this time last year that video surveillance helped us break that case and solve it. Those are huge. So if packages come up missing, check with your neighbors and see if anyone on your street has surveillance cameras because they could have picked them up," he said.

Bates said if you see any suspicious activity or feel like somebody may be following a delivery truck, contact local authorities.
