Fatal wreck causes back-up near gas station in Decatur

DECATUR, AL (WAFF) - A two-vehicle crash on Highway 20 near Bibb Garrett Road left one person dead Monday morning.

Around 11:56 a.m. Decatur police, Decatur Fire and First Response EMS immediately responded to the scene.

A red 2008 GMC Sierra, that was driven by Matthew Perry, 23, of New Hope, was traveling eastbound on Highway 20 when it left the roadway and entered the ditch.

The vehicle continued into westbound traffic where it struck a white 2016 Ford Super Duty pickup that was driven by Jeremy Luke Pierce,36, of Maylene.

Perry was pronounced dead at the scene and Pierce was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

An investigation is ongoing.
