HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - Madison County commissioners are delaying a plan to oust the current managers of the Madison County Boat Harbor.
The commissioners stalled their vote Wednesday after more than a dozen boaters showed up at their meeting.
Whitesburg Boating and Yacht Club members packed the meeting to voice their concerns. But the commissioners decided to delay the vote for least 30 days.
The commissioners plan to allow Ditto Landing to manage the Madison County Boat Harbor located on Hobbs Island Road. Whitesburg Boating and Yacht Club said they've managed the harbor since the 1950s.
"My only concern is that Ditto Landing management may already be well overwhelmed with the improvements that they need to make," said Theo Galzerano, a board member of the Whitesburg and Boating Yacht Club Board.
The nonprofit group said they had no clue their lease was ending in November until a few months ago.
District 3 Commissioner, Eddie Sisk said last year he's asked the group to make upgrades to the property.
"I've been down in the last few weeks, and the things that I've addressed have not been fixed," said Sisk. "And so, I think it's time for us to give it to somebody that can oversea it that will take care of the things that needs to be addressed."
The boating club said they're concerned about what will happen to 130 boat renters at the harbor.
Sisk promised the group that the renters will not be kicked off the property when Ditto Landing takes over.
