SCOTTSBORO, AL (WAFF) - A Scottsboro municipal judge is currently under investigation by the Alabama Judicial Inquiry Commission, according to the city's municipal clerk.

Scottsboro municipal clerk Caroline Starr confirms Judge James Mick is currently under investigation by the state. Clerk officials say the investigation began a few weeks ago, but it's unknown what the allegations are.

Starr said they were given notice and that state officials initially came to Scottsboro on Sept. 2. It's unclear just what the investigation is about, but the body investigates matters involving judicial ethics.

How the investigation got started is also not known. Starr said it would come from a complaint that anyone could file.

Officials with the JIC say if they find probable cause, the complaint would then be presented to the Alabama Court of the Judiciary for possible sanctions.

Attempts to reach Mick were unsuccessful.
