Thieves steal instruments from Marshall County community center

MARSHALL COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - Thieves have slowed down senior citizen dance schedules at Midway Community Center on the northwest tip of Marshall County.

Officials say someone broke in and stole all of the music equipment, including guitars, keyboards, amplifiers and microphones. They said the thieves got away with roughly $8,000 worth of equipment, including the public address system.

Jimmy Hester, who plays guitar in the house band, said that with the help of the community, the band will soon play on.

"We plan on starting back up two weeks from last night. The community wants to help us get started back. They're not willing to take this lying down," he said.

Instead of the typical dance scheduled for Sept. 15, Hester said anyone who wants to help them get new instruments is invited to the Midway Community Center for a meeting at 7 p.m. The address is 188 Midway Rd. in Union Grove. Hester's phone  number is 256-586-4303.

Anyone who knows anything about this crime can call the Marshall County Sheriff's Office.
