CULLMAN COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - A Cullman County woman has been charged with felony child abuse after physicians at a hospital noticed several signs of abuse.

According to the Cullman County Sheriff's Office, 32-year-old Charity Nicole Jackson of Vinemont was arrested late last week on aggravated child abuse charges.

Deputies say the child is less than 12-years-old and was taken to a hospital out of town when physicians noticed the child was very malnourished, had bruises, cuts on her head and ears and other wounds.

Due to the graphic nature of the crime and that it involves a minor child only limited details are being released.

"It breaks my heart to see a child being harmed but it also infuriates me at the same time. I am glad this person is now in jail where she belongs", said Sheriff Matt Gentry. "I would also like to thank our investigators and those who assisted them in this case."

Cullman County Sheriff's Office worked with the Department of Human Resources and the Child Advocacy Center during this case.
