HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - One man is behind bars and a teenager is dead after a shooting on 10th Avenue and 4th Street Tuesday morning.

When Huntsville police arrived at the scene around 7 a.m. they found 16-year-old Mustafa Bearfield dead from a gunshot wound.

According to police, 50-year-old Jonathon Wayne Scott of Madison was arrested at the scene. He is charged with manslaughter.

A report issued on Wednesday states the teen was taking items from Scott's vehicle before the shooting. Bearfield allegedly ran from the scene before Scott shot him.

Lisa Rodriguez lives down the block from the scene. She and several other neighbors said they weren't aware of the details of what happened until we alerted them to the fatal shooting.

"It's kind of scary because you never know," said Rodriguez.

Daniel Cundiff owns a few properties next to the shooting scene. He said the area used to be full of crime but when Lowe Mill opened it cleaned up but now with two shootings nearly back to back he's pretty spooked.

"I'm not used to this. This is the second time in a week. There was a shooting here four houses down last week," said Cundiff. "This is very unusual."

Scott was booked into the Madison County Jail. At this time, bond has not been set.
